“Recent results on cosmetic surgeries”

Abstract:
Dehn surgery is a fundamental construction in 3-dimensional topology. Two Dehn surgeries on the same knot are cosmetic if they yield homeomorphic manifolds. Such surgerie s are very rare. I will talk about some recent results on the classification of cosmetic surgeries. The proofs use Heegaard Floer homology and sutured manifold theory. Some of this talk is based on joint work with Zhongtao Wu.
