Maria-Carme Calderer

Professor of Mathematics

I work in the modeling and mathematical analysis of problems of soft matter physics, arising in the fields of materials sciences and biophysics. My research themes include liquid crystals and continuum mechanics, elasticity and fracture, polyelectrolyte gels and bacteriophage viruses. The mathematical tools to address them include partial differential equations, dynamical systems, calculus of variations, finite element methods, with the recent incorporation of methods of data science.
