Using E-mail on Math Department /IT Computers

Note that you can access WebMail using any browser; however, if you'd like to send email directly from your lab machine, you should read about Pine. This is particularly useful if you want to send attachments, such as a Mathematica notebook.

The e-mail program on the Math Department computers is called Pine; type `pine` at a shell prompt to open it.

Pine is keyboard driven; from the main menu, hit `C` to compose a message. A handy way to attach a file to an email is to put the cursor in the `Attchmnt:` field and hit CTRL-T. This brings up a list of the files in your home directory; use the arrow keys to highlight the file you want to attach, and press ENTER. You'll be returned to the `Compose` window, and the appropriate filename will be in the message header.
