"Simple supercuspidal representations and simple wild parameters"

I will describe the construction of simple supercuspidal
representations of a reductive p-adic group G and discuss their
extremal qualities among all irreducible representations. Next I will
describe their Langlands parameters and how the we were led to these
parameters and representations by studying local gamma factors and the
conjectured degree formula of Hiraga, Ichino and Ikeda. This is joint
work with Benedict Gross.
