Text, Lecture, Office Hours:

Linear Algebra and Its Applications (4th Edition), by Gilbert Strang.
Lecture (003): MWF 12:20--01:10pm, Vincent Hall 211
Office hours: Wednesday 15:30-16:30 and Friday 10:20-11:20

Course Description:

This is a second, advanced course in Linear Algebra which assumes
the student has already masterd a one semester course in the subject.
In this course, systems of linear equations, Gaussian elimination, determinants,
vector spaces, linear independence, basis and dimension will be only briefly
reviewed.

New topics will include the Cramer's rule, the row, column spaces, linear
transformations, inner product, orthogonality, the Gram-Schmidt algorithm,
eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization, hermitian matrices, the singular
value decomposition, quadratic forms, positive definite matrices, and the
Jordan canonical forms. The lectures follow the text fairly closely.

Homework, Exams, Final Exam:

Homework will be assigned. Total is 10 % of the final grade.
There is a short quiz in the classes of: 02/08 (Friday); 03/01 (Friday); 04/05 (Friday).
Also we have three exams (two midterms and one final).

Among 3 Quizzes, top 2 are coounted toward the final grade, which cost 10 % each.
Among 2 Midterms, which cost 20 % each.
The Final costs 30 %.
For the final grade, we calculate H+2Q+M+M+F=10+20+20+20+30=100.
Midterm Exam Dates: March 13 (Wednesday); April 26 (Friday).
Final Exam: May 11 (Saturday), 2019, at the classroom, from 13:30 to 15:30;

Other Policies:

The final grade will be curved in this class.
