This photograph was taken at the Cedar Creek Natural History Area of the University of Minnesota. It shows an example of the prairie grasses studied by University scientists. Their experiments show that high diversity fields of native grasses yield greater productivity than monocultures. (1) They suggest harvesting prairie grasses for biomass energy as a way of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
