Convergence of subsets

The notion of convergence in the "Hausdorff metric" is used implicitly throughout this paper. However, since the concept will not be used in its full generality, the following notation is introduced for the special case of interest here.

Let Conv1.jpg , Conv2.jpg , be a sequence of subsets of Conv3.jpg , and let Conv4.jpg . The notation

Conv5.jpg

means that

Recall that, if Conv14.jpg is compact for every Conv15.jpg , then so is Conv16.jpg . If, in addition, each Conv17.jpg is nonempty, then so is Conv18.jpg .
