Abstract.  Attractors for continuous maps on locally compact metric spaces are studied. The notion of the intensity of an attractor is introduced. It is shown that the intensity is a measure of the robustness of the attractor when subject to perturbations of the map.

In 1998 Tamas Wiandt, a research assistant at the Geometry Center at the time, converted the report into HTML, following a format used by Davide Cervone. Davide has since gone on to develop MathJax, the best current system for displaying mathematics on Web pages.
