12/13/03: Good luck on the final!
12/13/03: The rules described on the sample finals have little
to do with the rules on our final. The sample finals are just old
finals, and the rules do vary from year to year.
12/13/03: The mean on the third midterm was 61.65 out of
100.
12/12/03: Problem 3 on Sample Final I does not give a correct
choice, 15/4. The correct answer for Problem 19 is 1/2, the lower
limit in the solution must be 2 after the substitution. Sorry about
the confusion - I meant to do you a favor by posting something I have
inherited from the previous years.
12/11/03: Please, ignore Problem 22 on Sample Final I. The
sample finals are just old finals. The 1272 syllabus has changed since
then, and the material covered then was not exactly the same as for
our final. I apologize about not telling you this earlier.
12/09/03: Rules on the final: No texts, notes, "cheat
cards", calculators, or anything. Make sure to bring #1 or #2 pencils
(for multiple-choice questions) and, if you wish, pens. You must also
bring your official University ID card with you for the final exam and
show it to one of the proctors when handing in your exam. The proctor
will not accept a final exam from a student without an ID card. It is
time to learn your TA's name (if you have not done so) and your course
and section number.
12/09/03: Coverage for the final: Chapter 7, omitting
7.6, the addition formulas on p. 481, Case IV on page 498. (You do not
have to memorize the trigonometric substitutions on page 484, as the
table will be provided on the test, if needed. You do not have to
memorize the formulas 3 and 4 for error bounds from 7.7, as they will
also be provided, if needed.) Chapter 8 (omitting the subsection on
Hydrostatic Pressure and Force (part of 8.3) and Sections 8.4 and
8.5), Chapter 9 (omitting the subsection on Orthogonal Trajectories
(part of 9.3) and Sections 9.5-9.7), Chapter 10 (omitting the
subsections on Graphing Calculators and Computers (parts of 10.2 and
10.4), the subsection on Shifted Conics (part of 10.6), and Section
10.7). Sections 11.1-3 (omitting the subsections on Estimating the Sum
of a Series and Proof of the Integral Test), 11.4 (omitting Estimating
Sums), 11.6 (omitting Rearrangements), 11.8-10, 11.12 (omitting
Applications to Physics), 12.1-4 (omitting applications to
Physics), 12.5-7.
12/09/03: A room for the final exam has been reserved. The
final will be in Physics Hall 150, 1:30-4:30, Monday, December
15.
12/08/03: Sample finals with solutions are posted!
12/03/03: My office hours Thursdays have been and are 11 -
noon.
12/01/03: Please, make sure that you have printed out the
sample midterm answer sheet after 3:52 pm December 1. There was an
error in the answer to Problem 9 in the earlier version.
11/25/03: A sample third midterm is posted along with the
answers. Remember to refresh your browser when you are on the main
class web page to see the link to the sample exam.
11/24/03: Have a Happy Thanksgiving! And do not forget
to take homework and a copy of the sample exam to your folks or
wherever you go for the holiday!
11/24/03: Coverage on the third Midterm Test, which
will be during your discussion sessions Thursday, December 4: Sections

(omitting Rearrangements), 11.8-10, 11.12 (omitting Applications to
Physics), 12.1-4 (omitting applications to Physics). It is time to

11/14/03: The mean on the second midterm was 62.32 out of
100.
11/13/03: I have to cancel my office hours today, because I
