Reading: Shastri: Sections 1.3-1.5 (through 1.5.13 and Remark 1.5.16).
Exercises: Shastri, 2nd edition: Exercise 1.3.11 (i, iii), Example 1.4.6 (This example is actually a problem), Exercise 1.5.19 (i, iii, vi, viii). In problem 1.5.19 (iii), the weird notation, dotted I, means the boundary {0,1} of the interval.
Suggestion: I believe working in study groups and consulting the hints is beneficial to learning things neither is cheating. But give the problem a thought before discussing it with freinds or consulting the hints section.
Warning: If you use the 1st edition of the textbook, check the assigned exercises against the 2nd edition copy available online through the Library, as the numbering has changed between the two editions!
