Texts: M Sullivan, Precalculus, 8th edition, Prentice Hall.

Course Content: This course is the second in a two-course sequence covering the content of a standard precalculus course. We will cover most of Chapters 6 - 8 and some sections of Chapters 9 - 12.

Course Assessment
There will be three 50-minute mid-term exams in class on Fridays, to be held on October 9, November 6 and December 11. The final exam will be held at the scheduled time as announced in the Class Schedules, which is Thursday December 17, 1:30-4:30 in a room to be announced which will probably not be the usual lecture room. You will also have homework and quizzes organized by the TA in recitations. Your final grade will be made up of homework and/or quizzes 25%, mid-term exams 15% each, final exam 30%.

Prerequisites: 3 1/2 years high school math, or C- in Math1051, or placement exam.

Homework and quiz arrangements: Homework problems are assigned for each section of the book on the reverse side of this sheet. Arrangements to do with homework and quizzes will be handled entirely by the TA in recitations and these arrangements will be announced by the TA. The policy regarding what homework is handed in, when quizzes are held, what happens if a quiz or homework is missed, whether lowest scores are dropped, and all such questions are a decision for the TA, not the lecturer.

Calculators: Basic scientific calculators are allowed in exams and quizzes. These are calculators that can handle exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions. Graphing calculators or calculators that can do symbolic manipulations will not be allowed during exams and quizzes.

Attendance: Students are expected to attend all lectures and recitations. Attendance may be checked, and included in the grade line.

Absence from exams: Missing a midterm is permitted only for the most compelling reasons. Except in extraordinary situations, you should obtain permission from the {\it lecturer} (not the TA) to miss an exam in advance; otherwise you will be awarded a 0. If you are excused
from taking a midterm, your course grade will be determined by giving extra weight to the final exam. Except in extremely exceptional situations, all students missing the final exam will fail the course.

Incompletes: These will only be given in exceptional circumstances. A student must have satisfactorily completed all but a small portion of the work in the course, have a compelling reason for the incomplete, and must make prior arrangements with me for how the incomplete will be removed, well before the end of the quarter.
